Max Perry awarded the John William Slater Award for outstanding achievement!

John William Slatter Award 2022!

Max applied for and was awarded the Slater Fund Bursary in 2018, when he was full-time CTV master to pursue studies to upgrade his Master 200 Unlimited Coc to gain the Master 500 Workboat Unlimited Certificate of Competence.

Having moved to a shoreside role during his studies, he elected to continue with his studies and finished the course at the end of 2021. He subsequently passed his oral in May 2022.

He was very happy to be awarded his new CoC but was delighted to learn later that he had been nominated by the Marine Society and Sea Cadets for a certificate of outstanding achievement.

Ed Gibson kindly accompanied Max to Trinity House at Tower Hill in London, where he was awarded the certificate by the Rear Admiral Richard Murrison in front of the assembled great and good and other prize winners.

The Slater Fund, managed by the Marine Society with Nautilus International, offers Slater Scholarships of up to £18,500, with an additional discretionary £1,500 for completing the programme.

The Fund helps ratings study for the first certificate of competency, and can also help Electro-Technical Officers and yacht, workboat and tug crew gain STCW certification.

It was established in 1977 in memory of former MNAOA General Secretary John William Slater. In the past 10 years, more than 1,000 seafarers have benefitted.

At the presentation it was announced that there is plenty of opportunity for other candidates to pursue greater tickets using the fund. In order to apply please visit:
